Kristen Stewart's next movie role is completely different from Bella

Twilight star Kristen Stewart is virtually unrecognizable as man-eating Marylou Moriarty in the big screen version of Jack Kerouac’s novel, On the Road.

You might just be crying in despair the next time you see Kristen Stewart – her newest character is NOTHING like your beloved Bella Swan! Beloved? Get off the Internet.

The 20-year-old starlet will leave Twilight behind to play Marylou Moriarty, the slutty young wife of arty wanderer Dean Moriarty (Tron: Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund) in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s iconic Beat Generation novel, On the Road. But what can you expect to see from Kristen, who’s shooting the flick for two months beginning August 2 in Toronto before heading to New Orleans and Mexico? Read on, BFFs!

• She sleeps around! Marylou bumps uglies with both Dean and his best friend, Sal (British actor Sam Reilly), has car sex with Dean while Sal sleeps AND gets it on with at least nine sailors! I love how excited this person is about that.

• She says ‘I do’ – TWICE! Marylou marries Dean, divorces him and then gets hitched to a…car salesman. Trading up baby, trading up. Everyone's better than a sparkling "vampire".

• She’s got blond ambition! Buh-bye brunette beauty – Kristen has returned to her strawberry blond roots (believe it or not) to play Marylou!

• She’s FINALLY get to dress like, well, Kristen Stewart! “Beatnik” is just an old-fashioned word for “hipster’, which is just K-Stew’s style! Think striped shirts, oversized sweaters, cowl-collared tops, slim-fit pants or pencil skirts, skinny Capri pants and eastern religious-symbol jewelry. However, female “beatniks” are a bit more feminine than the tomboyish starlet – so she might not TOTALLY love her new look. Better than Bella.

• K-Stew will struggle to be smoking hot! Literally. Beatniks roll their own cigarettes, and we all know how much Robert Pattinson’s lady love likes a good ciggie! Wrong. She's gay.

• She wants to hold your hand! We know how Kristen loves her indie bands, but if she really wants to get into her character, she’s going to need to embrace Beat bands like Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd and, of course, The Beatles.

Harry Potter VS Twilight

I'm so sick of everyone saying Twilight is better than Harry Potter or Harry Potter is better than Twilight. Which one is seriously the best?
—Ariel, via the A.B. inbox

I have an answer. A definitive, once-and-for-all, never-ever-seriously-ever-to-be-questioned answer. Not just an opinion, but a scientific, quantifiable, fact-based answer to the question: Which is better, Twilight or Harry Potter?

And here it is:

Let's break this down into areas of dominance. And let's also start with some numbers, because, as we know, numbers cannot lie.

Movies—The Critics
Advantage: Harry Potter

Without a doubt, critical reception for the Harry Potter franchise—both books and films—has been much kinder compared with Twilight.

If you look at Rotten Tomatoes, for example, which aggregates movie reviews, you'll see that every single Potter film has gotten generally "fresh," or positive, feedback. No film has garnered less than 77 percent; the highest aggregation is for Prisoner of Azkaban, which earned a very fresh 89 percent.

Not so the two Twilight films we have so far, which have both been condemned as quite rotten. Numbers. Science.

Movies—The Box Office
Advantage: Harry Potter

Analyzing that may not seem entirely fair. After all, we have only two Twi films—with the third opening this week—and five Potters.

But on average, the Harry Potter films do have an edge when it comes to revenue. Twilight grossed about $400 million around the world. In their sophomore story, New Moon, the people of Forks have grossed roughly $700 million. That's real nice, until you see that the Harry Potter films are, on average, hovering closer to $1 billion.

That's a lot of gold over at Gringott's.

The Books
Advantage: Harry Potter

As for the books, well, let's single out one Potter book as an example. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has received no reader reviews below four stars on Amazon. Zero. None.

But Twilight has garnered plenty of negative reviews from readers and critics alike. The reason? I have my own theories (including an insipid doormat of a heroine and writing that falls somewhere between a junior high school problem solving bowl and Twitter) but that's neither here nor there.

Sales are no less telling. Per Wikipedia, the Harry Potter series has outsold the Twilight series by something like 4 to 1. That's 400 million copies vs. an estimated 100 million, that is. Yes, the Potter series has more books, but still, it's a very big margin.

Theme Parks
Advantage: Harry Potter

Does Twilight have a theme park? No. No it does not.

The Stars
Advantage: Twilight

Certainly we'd be remiss if we ignored the popularity of the actors in each franchise, and the characters they play. Kristen Stewart continues to hold the No. 1 position on the IMDB Starmeter, vs. the easily-just-as-talented but less-high-profile threesome over at Hogwarts.

And even though Robert Pattinson showed up in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before his pale and sparkly days, Twilight has made him an undeniable and unrivaled 21st century heartthrob. No two ways around that.

To my knowledge, also, there really isn't much of a market in Team Harry vs. Team Draco T-shirts.

The Verdict
Harry Potter is better.

Our cousins over at Fandango ran a poll on this very topic, too. The question: Which series had the more lasting impact on pop culture, Twilight or Harry Potter? Potter beat out Twilight—by a ratio of about 60 to 40.

Which backs up my numbers, too. The critics, the book sales, the box office, it all points in one direction.

So, which franchise is better? Looks like it's pretty clear who deserves the Quidditch Cup.

Ashley Greene on the 'Tonight Show'

She’s one of the hottest actresses out there right now, and Ashley Greene says she refuses to become another skinny celebrity.

Paying a visit to the “Tonight Show” last night (June 14), the “Twilight” babe revealed, “A lot of people like to be super tiny, but I don’t want a child’s body — I want a woman’s body that is extremely fit. It’s so much sexier.”

“I’m a big believer in feeding your body what it needs. Deny yourself something and you’re going to end up shoving your face full of it,” the beautiful brunette added.

Crediting the “Twilight” films for her toned body, Ms Greene also told, “We had a lot of action and fight training.”

Summit looking at Academy Award-nominated directors for 'Breaking Dawn'

Yes, it’s still early days, but Summit is trying to up its pedigree for its big-screen adaptation of the final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week. Until then we can just wonder how these three very diverse directors will approach Bella’s controversial birthing scene.

Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning's 'Cherry Bomb' From 'The Runaways'

Kristen Stewart was a lot more nervous about performing the songs in her new movie The Runaways than locking lips with her costar Dakota Fanning. The girls learned to perform the band's signature songs, with some performances ending up on the film's soundtrack.

The stars's rendition of the girl group's hit song 'Cherry Bomb' has now been released via the movie's website and you can hear it here. Also check out the new movie stills and promotional pictures from the Facebook website. I love the '70's style promotional posters and Crawdaddy magazine cover, and the picture of Kristen in the striped tank with heavy eye make up and safety pin necklace.

Can Taylor Lautner’s Reflected Glow Make The Hurt Locker’s Cast Look Presentable?

Brooks Barnes enumerates the things NBC, Dick Clark Productions, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association are doing to boost ratings for Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards. Among them: hiring a host (Ricky Gervais) for the first time in fifteen years, a bunch of online marketing, and arranging the seating chart to be sure that only beautiful stars are seen on-camera:

"Anybody connected with Nine is going to be sitting ringside," [HFPA president Philip Berk] said, referring to the musical starring Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Kate Hudson and Daniel Day-Lewis. Lining up younger stars has been a priority. Seated with The Hurt Locker contingent will be Taylor Lautner, the beefcake star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. "He will be there to make the table look glamorous," Mr. Berk said.

We didn't think Kathryn Bigelow, Anthony Mackie, or Jeremy Renner needed the help. But we are excited to see who gets seated next to poor Michael Stuhlbarg.

Taylor Lautner Talks Megan Fox, Girls and how to be a Man

Since you gained so much muscle for New Moon, what designer fits you the best?
Lately I’ve been wearing many suits, and I love the suits by Calvin Klein collection. They look great and they’re comfortable. For shoes I like Cole Haan. When I’m dressing more casual I like Diesel. Their jeans are my favorite.

How much has your look evolved?
I’m always being told to dress up for events and special occassions, even for school. If I was going out with friends and play football, my friends would be wearing shorts and t-shirts, but I’d wear jeans and a t-shirt. I like to look cool and comfortable, but with a special twist, always. Sometimes I wear jeans and a white V-neck shirt, the next day I want to dress up and wear a nicer shirt and a nice jacket.

Do you still play football?
Yes! That’s how I like to have fun. I’ve played football all my life. I always need to have a foot ball with me. On set, I’m always carrying a ball. If I’m on a break from shooting I just throw it around and see who wants to play.

And who’s that most of the times?
Amazingly, it’s Kristen. She has a great arm and aim. I play with her and her assistant John.

Name one thing that’s in your closet that you can’t live without?
Leather jackets like this one by John Varvatos. I have like 5 or 6.

You’re very active. How do you take care of your hair?
I use KMS Hairplay and Redken paste.

Jacob has received advice from his dad. What has your dad told you?
He’s told me to save my money, and that there’s no need to spend it like crazy.

Who are your acting heroes?
As far as acting, Denzel Washington. I love Matt Damon and the Bourne series. And Christian Slater, I played his son in My Own Worst Enemy last year, and I haven’t seen him since the series wrapped up. But last summer when I was at the Dodger Stadium, someone touched my arm, I turned around and it was Christian. I loved seeing him. He’s an amazing guy, and one of the most professional actors I’ve ever worked with. I learned a lot from him.

Who was your first movie crush?
Jessica Alba was my crush for the longest time. Now it’s Megan Fox. Hope I can work with her someday.

What do you love and hate about a girl?
I think a girl is at her most attractive when she’s wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, and she’s just herself. I don’t like it when they try to dress up too much. That’s why I’m not a fan of heels. I love it when they wear jeans and flats. Also when they wear those tall boots with a skirt, or a short dress.

Describe your perfect Saturday Night.
Going to dinner to a steak house. I found the best in Vancouver called Keg. I love steak. No sushi, no blue cheese, coconut, or any of that stuff for me. My coach bugs me telling me “You have to start eating more chicken! Stop eating steak”. But I can’t help it. I’m the kind of guy that’s always in the mood for red meat and hamburgers.

Aside from food, what do you think makes you a guy?
A guy has to be into sports, have friends and watch the Super Bowl together, and then take his girlfriend out and buy her clothes and jewelry.

So a guy has to be strong, but sweet. It’s like you just described Edward’s rival, Jacob.
But Edward can’t play football or turn into a wolf. Although I can’t sparkle in the sunlight…

Kristen Stewart: Heartbroken Over Photo Leak

Kristen Stewart: Heartbroken Over Photo Leak

Putting her heart and soul into the movie “New Moon,” Kristen Stewart says she was devastated when pictures of the cast were leaked onto the Internet before the film’s release. “I was heartbroken when pictures were all over the Internet. I didn’t want anybody to see certain looks, like Taylor in his wig, because we wanted to surprise people when the movie came out,” says the Bella Swan actress.

The 19-year-old also revealed she has become “protective” of her big screen alter ego because their lives have progressed in a similar way.

“I feel like Bella has become something that is me, in a weird way. I feel very protective of her,” she said.

The beautiful brunette added, “It’s been a wild ride and there’s been a lot of self-evaluation. I’ve grown a lot, and so has Bella.”

Robert Pattinson to have Sex with Uma Thurman??

Onscreen of course.

The ladies love to see Robert Pattinson getting steamy with Kristen Stewart in the “Twilight” films, and now he’s set for an on-screen hookup with Uma Thurman.

According to a report, the “New Moon” stud has signed on for the lead in “Bel Ami,” playing an ambitious young journalist named Georges Duroy.

And in the process of sleeping his way to the top, Pattinson’s character ends up in the sack with Thurman’s character Madeleine.

Robert recently admitted that he’s a bit apprehensive with anything outside his mainstay vampire role. “You get offered stuff that you would never dream of getting offered before, but that’s also scary. You don’t have to audition for anything. But I don’t want to do a movie just so it gets made. You have to question yourself a lot more. Before Twilight, I did any movie that I got offered, and you’d try and make the best of it afterward. But now, you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Mysterious Island Getaway

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart quietly welcomed 2010 together on an island off the south coast of England – a visit that made for an exciting evening for some young locals.

Pattinson, 23, and Stewart, 19, were spotted by a young fan on New Year's Eve in Ventnor, a seaside resort on the Isle of Wight, 80 miles south of Pattinson's family home in west London. The New Moon costars happily posed for photos with the fan outside a grocery store – before vanishing like, well, vampires.

After the pics appeared on a local blog, word spread quickly, and young fans scoured the island looking for the duo. "All the young girls have been trying to find him," said store manager Jez Harmer. "They have been out on a hunt."

But they turned up no clues about where Pattinson and Stewart – who have been coy about their relationship – might have gone. "It's literally a mystery," Harmer said.

British celebrities like Kate Moss, Russell Brand, Peaches Geldof and Amy Winehouse have all paid visits to Ventnor, says Ventnorblogger Sally Perry.

"Well-known artists and musicians have found that they can live normal lives in Ventnor, away from the media glare," she said. "So others tend to follow suit by choosing our lovely town for their special getaways."

Taylor Lautner Is Now Hollywood's Highest Paid Teenage Actor

By Nikki Finke

I've just learned that Taylor Lautner is now being paid per ab. That's right, the 17-year-old co-star of the Twilight Saga franchise who's famous for his buff physique that is making girls scream when he takes off his shirt in New Moon, is getting $7.5 million for his next pic. The project is Paramount's Northern Lights, a Tom Cruise vehicle to be directed by John Moore (Max Payne) with a start date of April 1st. The logline says the pic is about "a gifted, young, aerobatics pilot who faces off with his controlling, billionaire father and falls in love with a gifted, female pilot). That shitload of money negotiated by WME now makes Taylor Lautner into the highest paid teenage actor around. (I'm told that neither Zac Efron nor Miley Cyrus have ever gotten a salary even close to that for their films. Amazing!)

Kristen to Play Lisbeth Salander in Hollywood Remake of Millenium Series

According to Picca Blog, Kristen is in the talks for the leading female role in a Hollywood remake of the Swedish Millenium series.

"Earlier this week here at Popcorn disclose that Sony Pictures is negotiating to buy the rights to the series Millennium, and now there is news for the project. In addition to highlighting the star George Clooney as the character Mikael Blomkvist, the actress who will interpret the Lisbeth Salander has no name.

Well, Kristen Stewart, Bella of the Twilight series, is listed to play the hacker in the trilogy Millennium. Kristen, like Clooney, is considered the only option of Sony, which already holds the rights to adapt.

Also revealed two actresses who would like to interpret the hacker. Ellen Page and Natalie Portman have said they are interested in the role."

Kristen Heads to the UK to Meet up With Robert!

One Twilight fan got lucky in the UK recently — she ran into both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson outside a grocery store somewhere in England! Robert had been spotted last week outside his family's London home with his sister, and it looks like Kristen joined him during their holiday fun. While some stars preferred to ring in 2010 with exotic beach vacations, it looks like your favorite couple of 2009 got together for something a little more low-key.

Sandra Bullock Top Money-Making Movie Star of 2009; Taylor Lautner is Future Money-Maker

GROTON, Mass., Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Sandra Bullock has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2009 in Quigley Publishing Company's 78th Annual Poll of Exhibitors and is the first female to win since Julia Roberts in 1999. Bullock is the eighth woman chosen #1 in the Poll's 78 year history. She appeared in three films in 2009, "The Blind Side," "The Proposal" and "All About Steve."

The Quigley Poll, conducted each year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture theatre owners and film buyers, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue for their theatres during the year. It has been long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star's real box-office draw because the selections are done by people whose livelihood depends on choosing the films that will bring audiences to their theatres. The Quigley Poll appears annually in Quigley Publishing Company's International Motion Picture Almanac and at www.quigleypublishing.com .

With Bullock's win, eight women have been voted the Top Money-Makers sixteen times as follows: Marie Dressler (1932, 1933), Shirley Temple (1935, 1936, 1937, 1938), Betty Grable (1943), Elizabeth Taylor (1961), Doris Day (1960, 1962, 1963, 1964), Julie Andrews (1966, 1967) and Julia Roberts. (1999)

Tom Cruise has not placed in the Poll in the last two years but he has been in the Top Ten 20 times since 1983, and been voted number one seven times. Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds and Bing Crosby have all won five times. John Wayne, Doris Day and Shirley Temple each finished first four times, but John Wayne was voted one of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars an astounding 25 times from 1949 to 1974.

Exhibitors were also asked to name the Stars of Tomorrow for 2009: one actor and one actress who they feel will be Top Money-Makers in the years to come. The 2009 winners are Carey Mulligan who had a breakthrough performance in "An Education" and was also in "Brothers" and "Public Enemies" and Taylor Lautner who scored as Jacob Black in "New Moon."

1. Sandra Bullock
2. Johnny Depp
3. Matt Damon
4. George Clooney
5. Robert Downey Jr.
6. Tom Hanks
7. Meryl Streep
8. Brad Pitt
9. Shia LaBeouf
10. Denzel Washington

Stars of Tomorrow:

Taylor Lautner

Johnny Depp placed second this year based on "Public Enemies" and a small role in "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus." He was #1 in 2006 and 2007. Matt Damon made his second appearance in the survey, placing #3 with 2009 roles in "Invictus" and "The Informant!" Although George Clooney, placing #4, has never won in his seven mentions in the Poll, he had an extremely productive year with "Up in the Air," "The Men Who Stare at Goats" and "Fantastic Mr. Fox"(voice). Robert Downey Jr.'s performances in "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Soloist" helped him place #5. He was #2 in 2008.

Tom Hanks is #6, which marks the fifteenth time in the Poll since he first appeared in 1988, including five times as #1. Meryl Streep was in "Julie and Julia," "It's Complicated" and a voice in "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and placed #7, her third mention in the Poll.
