FORBES' 100 Most Powerful/Highest-Earning Celebrities from June 2009 - June 2010

Oprah Winfrey takes back her crown while pop chart phenomenon Lady Gaga catapults to No. 4 on this year's ranking of the richest and most powerful actors, actresses and musicans.

Earnings Increase
Despite stock market swings and a global economy that seems reluctant to restart, the earnings power of the Celebrity 100 remains remarkably resilient. The stars on our list collectively earned $4.7 billion this year, up from the $4.1 billion they banked a year earlier.

The Celebrity 100, which includes film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors, musicians, and comedians, is a measure of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio, and online). Because of the growing power of social networks, we added a social media ranking that reflects each celebrity's presence on Facebook and Twitter. The earnings consist of pre-tax income between June 1, 2009, and June 1, 2010. Management, agent, and attorney fees are not deducted.

A Gaga Debut
Lady Gaga catapults onto our list, ranking ahead of much more established pop stars like Madonna (No. 10) and U2 (No. 7). She has a 106-date world tour and her willingness to partner with corporations like Virgin Mobile and Polaroid to thank for an estimated $62 million in earnings. What's more, her fame and theatricality have brought her gobs of press coverage, while her music videos have made her something of an Internet sensation. Proof: The fashion-forward rocker ranks first for social media and Web presence among the Forbes Celebrity 100.

Gaga is also the list's top-ranked newcomer, leading a group that includes the Black Eyed Peas ($48 million), O'Brien ($38 million), and "Twilight" co-stars Pattinson and Stewart. Pattinson comes in at No. 50 with estimated earnings of $17 million, while Stewart, who is working on fewer non-"Twilight" projects, comes in at No. 66 with a $12 million haul.

Just missing the top 10 was former "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell, who earned $80 million and is No. 11 on the list. The highest-ranking country music artist is Taylor Swift, who comes in right after Cowell and earned $45 million. She bested Miley Cyrus, No. 13 with $48 million.

After Cameron, the highest film director on the list is Steven Spielberg, who earned $100 million and is No. 22.

In the land of TV talk -- beyond Winfrey -- Dr. Phil McGraw (No. 21) beats Ellen DeGeneres (No. 23), and David Letterman (No. 24) beats Jay Leno (No. 34). Conan O'Brien is No. 51.

Last year's top choice, Jolie, fell to No. 18 with $20 million earned. Boyfriend Brad Pitt is No. 30, and his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, is No. 26.

Indecency Complaints Filed Over the Grammys

With the copious shots of Lady GaGa’s barely covered vagina, this was bound to happen sooner or later. The good viewers of middle-America have come together at their annual meeting to decide that they don’t like the sight of vagina. More specifically Lady GaGa’s vagina, without much in the way of material to cover it, when she was at the Grammys and performed with Elton John. Furthermore, they don’t like crotch-grabbing. Specifically, they don’t like the sight of Beyonce grabbing her crotch. Weirdos. I’d pop some popcorn in the microwave before setting about reading the hilarity found over at TheSmokingGun.com. If the Adam Lambert gay kiss complaints were anything to go by, these are going to be a steaming pile of vagina-hating hilarity. There are approx. 10 pages of complaints, starting with one that whined about her kiddies seeing GaGa’s GaGa a.k.a. “frontal crotch area” (as opposed to the back crotch area?). Oh, another point, the woman on page one seems to not know how to use her remote. She paid for CBS, so she was determined to leave it on and get her money’s worth.

Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' Style Is 'Amazing,' Co-Star Jai Rodriguez Says

'I love the Bettie Page bangs and the aesthetic of the film noir and the hair,' he says.

Lady Gaga rocks many interesting looks in her "Telephone" music video, from crime-scene tape, a '40s suit and hat, a bikini and jacket made of leather and studs to a leopard-print leotard and an American-flag-print bikini. Oh, and let's not forget all her telephone-inspired headgear.

Beyoncé also gets her fashionista on, thanks to an American-flag dress, a yellow latex dress with matching cowboy hat and a funky military-inspired blue satin top with cutoff denim shorts.

TV personality Jai Rodriguez, who appears in the video as a reporter, said the looks are amazing.

"I think the military thing [is the best]," he told MTV News. "The big, oversized, shoulder-paddy bedazzled jackets. I don't think it's something Beyoncé would have rocked on her own, but being in a Gaga video, she made it her own. Made it very B. I love the Bettie Page bangs and the aesthetic of the film noir and the hair. I thought that [suit she wears leaving the prison] was amazing. I love the film-noir thing."

Rodriguez is already seeing the video's style influence in the real world, spotting girls wearing Gaga's fluorescent-yellow hair.

Other fashion experts are noticing Gaga's fashion-icon status as well. "I think she's growing up nicely and starting to bust out on her own," "The City" boss Kelly Cutrone told MTV News about the looks in the video. "I think she's making much stronger pop-art statements."

Lady Gaga on "Telephone" and Its Hidden Meaning

Speaking exclusively to E! News, Gaga says, "There's certainly always a hidden message in my music videos. But I would say most predominately, I'm always trying to convolute everyone's idea of what a pop music video should be."

When we think pop music videos, choreographed dances, costume changes and crazy editing are pretty standard, so what makes her video so different?

"There was this really amazing quality in 'Paparazzi,' where it kind of had this pure pop music quality but at the same time it was a commentary on fame culture. In its own way, even at certain points working with Jonas [Åkerlund, the director of both videos] really achieved this high art quality in the way that it was shot. I wanted to do the same thing with this video—take a decidedly pop song, which on the surface has a quite shallow meaning, and turn it into something deeper."

She also had the support of Inglourious Basterds writer/director Quentin Tarantino, which can't be underestimated.

"There certainly is a Tarantino-inspired quality in the video," she says. "I mostly love the way he uses different forms to create something new. His direct involvement in the video came from him lending me the Pussy Wagon. We were having lunch one day in Los Angeles and I was telling him about my concept for the video and he loved it so much he said, 'You gotta use the Pussy Wagon.'"

Ultimately, Gaga says her intent was to take "the idea that America is full of young people that are inundated with information and technology and turn it into something that was more of a commentary on the kind of country that we are."

At first glance, the country she portrays is all about dancing, mass murder, sexy lady jail and Polaroid. But we must be missing something...Is it about the high recidivism rates among felons exiting American prisons? Unsanitary kitchen conditions? Strong lady friendships kill men? Beyoncé's dangerous levels of fierceness? Or is this just another one of Gaga's masterful manipulations?

Razzies Announce 2010 Nominees

Nominated for the Worst Actress nominees are Beyonce in “Obsessed,” Sandra Bullock in “All About Steve,” Miley Cyrus for “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” Megan Fox for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Jennifer’s Body” and Sarah Jessica Parker in “Did You Hear About the Morgans.”

The “award” ceremony will be held the night before the Oscars at 7:30pm on Saturday, March 6.

Activist Group Not Gaga Over Lady's Guns

Lady Gaga's wild ways have earned her an enemy.

After using prop pistols during her live stage shows, and waving around faux firearms with Beyoncé in the video for their hit single, "Video Phone," gun safety group the Brady Campaign is taking on the popstar.

"The music was fine, but I wonder why they went out of their way to glorify guns in their production," the campaign's president, Paul Helmke, wrote on its website. "Beyond the sexual stereotype of guns in general, it's hard to understand why they are in the video at all."

But why the sudden interest in the not-so-recently-released music video and its stars?

The twosome, as well as soon-to-be-jailed-on-gun-charges rapper, Lil Wayne, are set to take the stage at Sunday's Grammy Awards, and the activists are looking for the broadcast to be held accountable for the message it is allegedly sending.

"I can hear people say, 'Hey, it's just show business,' and that Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne each put on a good show. I understand that," explained Helmke.

"Yet it is difficult to deny the influence that these entertainers have on our popular culture and the young people who absorb it," he continued. "Guns aren't toys, even when they're made with pretty colors or sung about in rap songs, and it is dangerous to treat them that way.

"It is a deadly problem that more of us—including celebrities—should take seriously."

Neither CBS nor a rep for the Grammys has yet responded to the criticism.

Beyonce and Chris Martin Peform Halo for Haiti

Giving one of the most powerful performances of the night, Beyonce Knowles and Chris Martin came together at the Hope for Haiti Now Telethon on Friday (January 22).

The “Sasha Fierce” singer incorporated Haiti in the lyrics of “Halo” while the “Coldplay” frontman played on the piano.

The words of the song were, “Haiti, we can see your halo/ You know you’re my saving grace,” she sang. “You’re everything I need and more, it’s written all over your face/ Haiti, we can see your halo/ I pray you won’t fade away.”

Later, Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z along with Rihanna and U2 took the stage for another incredible, heartfelt performance.

Beyoncé: 'Dangerously In Love was almost scrapped'

Beyoncé has revealed that she had trouble convincing her label to release her first album.

The star recorded her hugely-successful debut solo LP Dangerously In Love in 2003 after departing from Destiny's Child. However, the singer has claimed that it almost remained unreleased, Contactmusic reports.

She said: "In 2003. I had my first solo album. But when I played it through for my record label, they told me I didn't have one hit on my album.

"I guess they were kinda right, I had five. 'Dangerously In Love', 'Naughty Girl', 'Me, Myself and I', 'Baby Boy' and 'Crazy In Love'."

Beyonce has the best song of the decade!

NME, the popular UK music magazine, had its critics and staffers vote a 100-strong list of the best songs of the decade.


The track, which features Jay-Z, hit #1 in the U.S. and the UK and comes in at #1 on the NME list. Beyonce's horn-laden single beats out songs like MGMT's "Time to Pretend" and The Strokes' "Hard to Explain" for the top spot. Outkast and Yeah Yeah Yeahs both score two entries in the top 20.
