J.Lo Pokes Fun At ‘Idol’ Diva Rumors

Jennifer Lopez took to Twitpic on Thursday to poke fun at reports that her diva-like demands cost her a seat at the “American Idol” judges’ table.

The singer/actress responded to the brouhaha by tweeting a picture of lavish feather hats, makeup cases, and a box overflowing with sparkling diamond jewelry along with the caption, “Hmmm… what should I wear today?”

Since Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres have both decided to exit the FOX reality competition, rumors have swirled that Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler would take over, but on Wednesday, People reported that J.Lo was out as a potential judge.

“Her demands got out of hand,” a source told People on Wednesday. “FOX had just had enough.”

There has still to date been no clear indication from FOX or Fremantle about who will take over in the vacant “Idol” judge seat(s).

Jennifer Lopez is out as a judge on American Idol, according to a source close to the situation.

The singer-actress had been in talks to become a judge on the show this season but the deal fell apart.
“Her demands got out of hand,” says the source. “Fox had just had enough.”

With Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres both departing the show, the network had been pursuing a number of celebrities as potential judges, including Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.

But now that Lopez is out of the running, the network may be looking at their earlier top picks again.
Other reports have said that the panel could go back to the original three-judge format.

Fox chairman Peter Rice: We wanted Ellen to stay!

Fox executives Monday tap-danced around an onslaught of questions about "American Idol's" shape-shifting judges' panel - and gave no real answers about who would be on it.

Network chairman Peter Rice told the crowd of television critics gathered at the Beverly Hills Hilton that he wished he could have paraded out the new faces of "Idol" - whoever they may be - but that no contracts have been signed.

Rice would not speculate about who might be signing in the next few weeks.

"The only thing I can tell you with absolutely certainty right now is that no one has signed a deal yet, on either side of the camera, to join 'American Idol' next year who wasn't on it last year," said Rice.

That leaves the slots previously occupied by Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres - who confirmed her departure from the series last week - available. But it doesn't clarify whether Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will return, and Rice wouldn't elaborate.

He wouldn't even say if the series would keep the four-person panel or return to three. He also wouldn't confirm if former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe would return to the series, as rumored.

Rice said that some of the speculation about who will join the show (names thrown into the mix have included Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Justin Timberlake, Bret Michaels, Jessica Simpson and even Howard Stern) has been on target, while some has been "wildly inaccurate." He did confirm that every person spoken to about the job has some sort of musical background.

That's apparently not a knock on DeGeneres, who had none. Rice said he actually tried to talk her into staying, but that the show ultimately was not the right fit for her.

The full panel should be in place by, at the very latest, mid-September, when the show begins filming initial auditions.

All the speculation and hype over the new season of "Idol," its 10th, "is a reminder of how intensely people feel about the show and how connected they are to the show," said Rice.

In other Fox news, entertainment president Kevin Reilly said questions about "Glee" overexposure - given the show's dominating iTunes sales, a tour and repeats - are "a high-class problem to have."

"We're looking to just do a great year of television," he said of the second season. "Maybe some of the hoopla will die down, and I think that will be healthy."

During NBC's Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien fiasco, Fox officials said they were very interested in talking to O'Brien about joining the network to help it create a late-night presence. But with Conan now headed to TBS, Fox is pulling back on late-night initiatives.

"Conan's made his choice, and I think he's going to do great over there," said Reilly. "The late-night business - we're taking a beat on it right now. ... We're going to keep our eye on prime time until we find the right piece of talent. [But] late night's never off the table."

Kara DioGuardi's dad running for Senator in New York

Joseph DioGuardi, the father of "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi, plans to announce next Tuesday he is running as a Republican for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's seat.

DioGuardi, 69, was a congressman from Westchester County from 1985 to 1988 and is now a certified public accountant.

So far, the only candidate to officially enter the contest for the GOP nomination is Bruce Blakeman, a former Nassau County legislator.

Other Republicans reportedly considering a run include Dan Senor, a former Bush administration foreign policy adviser.

Can The Sex Symbol Become 'Idol' Champ?

During his audition, Casey James turned Kara DioGuardi and guest judge Victoria Beckham into slobbering schoolgirls when he happily took off his shirt at their request. And now the poor guy can't seem to get off the casting couch! For three weeks, the conversation around Casey has been more about Kara's crush on him than his viability as a music artist.

Best Performance: Casey showed an appealing vulnerable side when he warbled Bryan Adams' "Heaven," which sent DioGuardi into a disruptive tizzy. To James' credit, he was able to tone out the cougar's giggles and get through the song without incident.

Weakest Performance: Casey's "Idol" inexperience showed when he picked Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want to Be" because it had been covered on "Idol" so often in the past. (You got that backwards, buddy.) Despite Casey's best efforts to switch up the song with added electric guitar riffs, his performance had the authenticity of a Pat Boone heavy metal album.

Tragic Backstory: When he was 21, Casey was involved in a life-threatening car crash. Doctors told him he'd never play guitar again. But Casey was determined to pick up the ax again, and now he's able to rock out whenever he wants.

Why He Will Win: Never underestimate the power of the cougar vote! And since Kara and "Idol" producers go out of their way to make references to his shirtless audition, expect those middle-aged women to continue dialing like mad.

Why He Will Lose: Casey's been coasting for three weeks. He has to step it up quickly or else Lee Dewyze will start stealing the horny housewife contingent.

What He Should Sing: Simon's already established that he doesn't have enough "grit" to pull off bluesy rock numbers, but we think he has enough soul to make Paul Weller's "You Do Something to Me" his "Idol" moment.

On Being A Sex Symbol: "It's not even a reality for me," he said. "It doesn't come into reality because I'm just the same dude I've always been. Casey James should be sitting at the house with his dogs chilling out right now, or at a gig."

Change in AI Schedule + How it Affects Glee

Howard Stern: 'I Won't Work With DeGeneres Or DioGuardi' On 'American Idol'

Rumors about controversial radio host Howard Stern joining the "American Idol" judges' table after Simon Cowell's departure at the end of this season have been swirling for awhile, and Stern has discussed the talk openly on his Sirius Radio show. In his latest bit of "Idol" chatter, the shock jock said that he would only get on board if two judges currently on the show — Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi — were shown the door.

"What do you want me to tell you? Listen, I won't work with Ellen DeGeneres or Kara DioGuardi. If I go to 'American Idol', they're out," he told New York Post reporter Cindy Adams on Thursday night. "They don't have an opinion. You gotta be with it, you gotta make the show happen."

Stern, who spoke Adams on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of "Green Zone," didn't name potential replacements for DioGuardi and DeGeneres, but he did say he would bring his own people on board. "When I come in there, I'm gonna bring a couple of people — my own people with me — and we're going to take that show to new heights," he added. "Someone sings bad, we take the trap door and throw them right down the trap door. I'm going to put an electric dog collar on the contestants, when they screw up I'm going to shock 'em. You understand? We're going to talk a real show."

Stern also engaged in some public salary negotiations, telling "Entertainment Tonight" how much he thinks he should get paid. "I read in the paper that they want to give me $100 million to judge a karaoke contest, and that seems like pretty good pay for something as dumb as that," Stern said.

He also added his thoughts on DeGeneres' first week behind the judges' table. "Ellen has said she won't work with me, but quite frankly, after watching her on the stupid show, I gotta tell ya, I won't work with Ellen," he said. "She's out if I come in."

'Idol' gives Ellen's talk show record ratings

Fox's "American Idol" ratings are holding steady with last year, but Ellen DeGeneres' talk show is going through the roof.

During her first week on "Idol," Ellen's syndicated "Ellen DeGeneres Show" show scored its highest weekly average rating ever.

"Ellen" delivered a 2.9 household rating, her best in seven years on the air. She was also up 12% week-to-week and 26% year-to-year.

Season-to-date, "Ellen" has a 2.4. By comparison, industry titan Oprah Winfrey dominates with a 5.1, followed by the evil Dr. Phil (2.9) and the good Dr. Oz (2.8) tied with "Regis and Kelly" (2.8). "Ellen" was fifth.

And Ellen DeGeneres thought Simon Cowell was mean!
Howard Stern let loose on the new “Idol” judge in an expletive-laced bit during his radio show.

After commenting on DeGeneres’ deal as a spokesperson with Covergirl cosmetics (“Ellen DeGeneres looks like somebody punched her in the face,” he said. “She gets on that Covergirl and you’d think she’s Heidi Klum”), the shock jock dived into rumors he’s up to take Cowell’s spot.

“[DeGeneres is] going to ruin ‘American Idol,’ ” Stern said. “Everyone goes, if Howard Stern takes over ‘American Idol,’ Ellen DeGeneres might leave. Well yeah, that's the whole (expletive) idea. I’m not going to sit there with her – that dummy.”

Stern declined to comment on any discussions that he may or may not have had about the gig, but admitted that he watches the show. He claimed that he heard from at least one celebrity who is all for the idea of him serving as a judge on the show.

“This is a woman, a very well-respected woman,” he said. “She said to me, I never watched ‘American Idol’ but I tell you, if you are on it, I will watch it."

Ellen DeGeneres' first episode of American Idol could have been her 100th. She fit right in.

Not only did the show wisely not dwell on her too much, leaving the emphasis on the terrifying "sudden death" round of Hollywood week, but she wasn't too funny, either.

Meaning, we hope, there's plenty left in the tank for future rounds.

But while DeGeneres looked very serious in her reading glasses and crushed dreams like a grizzled veteran, she still brought some much-needed funny to the proceedings—an element Idol has always possessed, only this time it was coherent and intentional!

Not that Paula Abdul wasn't missed...

What did you think of Andrew Garcia's cover of Straight Up?



Andrew Garcia paid excellent homage to the former Idol judge with his acoustic version of "Straight Up," which for him was a straight shot into the dreaded group round.

"That was genius," raved Kara DioGuardi. "Paula would be screaming and yelling and clapping and dancing..."

Yes, we get it.

Among the familiar round-one auditioners chosen to continue the journey with Andrew were Casey James (who actually doesn't need to take his shirt off to entertain), 16-year-old Haeley Vaughn, rocker mom Mary Powers, freshly tattooed Crystal Bowersox, L.A. waitress Didi Benami and Michael Lynche, whose wife had just gone into labor with their first child when he took the stage.

But while they are certainly deserving, all will be humbled by the group round, which tends to be the bane of the contestants' collective existence, be it because of the late nights, or the personality clashes, or the sheer fact that some people are just meant to sing alone.

Howard Stern Confirms 'Idol' Talks

Howard Stern told his satellite radio listeners on Monday that he is considering leaving Sirius – and radio altogether -- to become a judge on “American Idol.”

Stern confirmed a report that Fox is interested in hiring the Sirius shock jock to replace Simon Cowell on the reality show.

“There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that fucking karaoke contest,” Stern said.

“It might be possible, we’ll see,” he said, adding: “They’d have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough.”

Howard said he'd keep a big rubber dildo at his side for Ellen. When he wants her to shut up he'd just give that to her and tell her to quiet down for a few.

He was going to try and get Ellen to quit by calling her a cunt.

Stern’s five-year, $500 million contract with Sirius expires at the end of the year.

Simon Cowell's 'Helping Haiti' charity single is to premiere tomorrow, it has been confirmed.

The track, a cover of REM's 'Everybody Hurts', will receive its first radio plays across various UK stations from 8am tomorrow morning.

The single features vocals from a lineup of 21 well-known recording artists, singing in the following order: Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, Mika, Michael Bublé, Joe McElderry, Miley Cyrus, James Blunt, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jon Bon Jovi, James Morrison, Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams.

It will go on sale this Sunday, but is available to pre-order now from Amazon. Proceeds will be divided equally between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun's 'Helping Haiti' appeal.

Report: Idol Contestant Cut After Dad Talks to Paper

A moment of pride has turned to sorrow as an American Idol contestant has been cut from the competition after violating a confidentiality agreement, according to a report.

Michael Lynche (a.k.a. Big Mike) was reportedly told to pack his bags after his father revealed to his local Florida paper, The St. Petersburg Times, that Michael had made the top 24 — a violation of Idol rules requiring the singers and their families to keep the Hollywood week results quiet until they’re broadcast.

The New York Post, citing Idol spoiler site Joe’s Place, says Michael was replaced in the top 24 over the weekend. FOX has declined to comment on the report.

If Lynche has indeed been booted, he wouldn’t be the first. Last season, Joanna Pacitti was replaced by Felicia Barton on the list of top 36 contestants. FOX would not give a reason other than Pacitti was found to be “ineligible to continue in the competition.” But her dismissal followed reports that she had connections to executives at Idol producer Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment.

Five American Idol Alum dropping Albums in November!

It really looks like fans of the show "American Idol" have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! Because at least five American Idol alums are releasing albums this November! Three albums are confirmed and two unconfirmed.

Carrie Underwood's third album "Play On", is scheduled to be released first, on November 3. Underwood's camp told USA Today that the album will be produced by Mark Bright, who worked with Carrie on her first two albums.

Carrie will only have a two-week lead on the charts before two high-profile debut albums from "Idol" favorites hit stores. On November 17, recent "Idol" champ Kris Allen will drop his major-label debut, and in an eyebrow-raising move, Atlantic Records has decided to release Jason Castro's first album that day too. (Castro failed to secure a management or record deal with "Idol" 's 19 Entertainment after season seven wrapped but was scooped up by Atlantic earlier this year.)

While Underwood skews country, Kris Allen and Jason Castro share a similar style. Both Allen and Castro overcame limited early exposure in their respective "Idol" seasons to emerge as unlikely competitors. Both became popular for eschewing the expected "big voice and glory note" formula and instead focused on making smart song choices that made the most of their atypical vocal styles. And both have worked with Kara DioGuardi. The "Idol" judge had songwriting sessions with Castro in early 2009, and Kris Allen recorded the DioGuardi-co-penned "No Boundaries," although there's no word as to whether either of these Kara collabos will end up on the final track lists for Allen's and Castro's CDs.

Complicating things further? Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta (who placed second and fourth this past May, respectively) are also set to release their first albums later this year. 19 Entertainment has remained mum about their release dates, yet there are a few clues that might shed some insight. And the forecast is looking crowded.

For example, Adam Lambert recorded a song for the Roland Emmerich film "2012," which hits theaters November 13. (The film is a Columbia Pictures release. Guess which record label Adam Lambert is signed to? RCA, which shares a parent company with Columbia.) It would make sense for RCA to capitalize on Lambert's soundtrack offering by getting his album in stores close to the film's release. However, should Lambert's new CD debut before Kris Allen's, it would be the first time since season two of "Idol" that a runner-up's album would appear before the winner's. (Clay Aiken dropped The Measure of a Man nearly two months before Ruben Studdard's Soulful.)

Meanwhile, rocker-grrl Allison Iraheta has said that her debut album will land "November-ish."

That brings the tally up to five potential "Idol" albums all hitting stores in November in the most epic "Idol" sales showdown the show has ever seen.

So while only three of the five albums have confirmed November release dates, and album release dates shift more than the tides (just ask Mariah Carey), one thing's for sure: "Idol" fans should start saving their cash now.

Personally I think that Adam Lambert will win in CD sales follow by Carrie Underwood. There are so much hype about that man but the most important thing about him is that he has an absolutely amazing voice so I hope his album will definitely triumph over the others.
