Katy Perry is a Mean Girl on American Idol

Make that Catty Perry.

Katy Perry, the girl-kissing, Russell Brand-taming pinup girl of a pop star, brought her cherry pout to the "American Idol" auditions in Los Angeles.

And between her and her companion in snarky musical starlet-ness, Avril Lavigne, it was like "American Idol" meets "Mean Girls."

At least Perry was up-front about her intentions. "I've always been a brutally honest type of gal," she announced in the now de rigueur preaudition sound bite solicited by Ryan Seacrest from all the guest judges.

"People are going to get the best advice that they need to hear," she challenged.

"People," however, turned out to be not just contestants, but also her fellow — and, ahem, much more experienced — judges.

"Don't ever put someone through because you feel bad," she admonished Kara DioGuardi when Kara wanted to pass someone on to Hollywood and Perry disagreed — as often turned out to be the case.

Kara looked justly shocked at Perry's presumption in doling out judging tips but, also, one might gather, at her apparent heartlessness.

Why, after all, would someone in the demigod-like position of "American Idol" judge feel bad for a second about crushing some unknown's dreams of stardom?

Perry, it seems, won't be losing any sleep over it.

Kara could only take so much of the upstart Perry's tendency to disagree with her at every turn. "What happened to girl power?" she asked the pop princess — who really earned that title in her turn as an "Idol" judge.

At one point, Kara mocked Perry's song "I Kissed a Girl" and Perry responded by saying, "I'm going to have to throw my Coke in your face."

Me-ow!

Perry even came perilously close to mocking the plight of a young man who grew up entirely in foster homes from the time he was 18 months old.
