Gaga is set to usurp Britney Spears' Twitter throne by becoming the top user on the popular social networking site, reported Reuters.

According to social media statistics service Famecount.com, the internationally acclaimed singer is slated to pass Spears' more than 5.6 million Twitter followers by Friday.

After reaching her 5 million milestone in July, Gaga tweeted, "Here's to monsters, music, and 5 million of my closest friends! Cheers! I officially declare this institution 'Tweeterland!'"

Lady GaGa’s Monster Ball predicted to gross $200 million.

Just when you thought that Lady GaGa couldn’t get anymore successful, Billboard go and officially predict that by the end of it’s April 2011 run, her Monster Ball tour will have grossed around $200 million. She’s not selling out stadiums yet like her contemporary Pink, but it’s quite the accomplishment for an artist with only two studio albums to their name.

The Monster Ball first began back in November 2009, and by May, it had grown so popular that promoter Live Nation had to add an extra North American leg to the tour, extending it into 2011. It’s currently scheduled to wrap up in Atlanta on April 18, 2011, but additional dates are expected to be announced, which could either see GaGa fill her days off with extra shows, extend the tour past April, or do both.

A total gross of $200 million would probably make the Monster Ball one of the most successful female tours in history, by the time it wraps up. Of course, she’ll be dead by then from severe-exhaustion, but at least she’ll always be remembered as she is now — rich and thin.

You mentioned you were in the studio working on some more pop orientated stuff, can you talk more about what you're working on?

Absolutely. After the M.I.A. record which I did in March, we were in the studio for the whole month just intensively working on stuff and the idea with that was to make some of the craziest stuff in the world. We'd make a track and go home and she'd be like "it's not weird enough, it's not crazy enough", so the whole point was to take the music out, take the chords out and strip it down. So after I was finished with that I wanted to work on some really musical, super chords... the complete opposite. So I worked with Britney, T.I. and Rihanna. I'm a musician you know, and I just wanted to do something with big chords, big melodies. When you're making dance music the number one rule is to keep is simple, and as a dance music producer doing electronic music I keep it simple and often have to take stuff out but when you're doing pop songs, you have to put as much in as you can; as much melody and music as possible, so yeah... I've been living a bit of a double life for the past few months.

When you work on a Britney track is there ever a temptation to sneak in something totally weird?

Well the thing is, they could go to the regular people who make hit pop records if they wanted something straight, but the whole reason they came to me was because I make more weird music anyway, so I already have a lisence to be crazy with it. It's Britney, she's got money. If she didn't want crazy she could ask someone who had a massive string of hit albums before, you know?

You have to understand that cameras are being pointed at you and they’re in your face and people are telling you to move this way or move that way. It’s not terrible work, but it is work.” The Enquirer quotes a source who says that Dominic “still can’t get Evangeline out of his head” and that “he is devastated and not even kissing Megan Fox can overcome that feeling.”

I was trying to remember when these two broke up, and reviewing our past stories they split for the first time way back in November, 2007 when Monaghan’s character was killed off Lost, but then got back together by February, 2008 and were said to be engaged last summer. We didn’t cover their breakup after that point, and I’m having trouble Googling it so maybe they kept it quiet. We then heard earlier this year that Evangeline was dating a production assistant.

I hope it’s not true that Dom is still hung up on Evangeline. It would make sense since they were together for so long, but there must be plenty of women he can console himself with. I’m sure that there are all sorts of interesting lovelies who would like to break off a piece of Dom’s luminous being.

Ruper Grint has admitted that he was ready to finish the Harry Potter series.

The cast recently completed shooting the final two-part instalment Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows and Grint told Entertainment Weekly that it felt like the right time to leave Ron Weasley behind.

"I'm ready to kind of move on now, I think," he said during an on-set interview.

"This film is a great way to finish the whole era, and it's going to be sad, because obviously all my friends are here, but ten years is enough."

Big Hobbit announcement coming August 21?

Could there be a big announcement coming August 21 about the Hobbit being green-lit?

Such is the speculation among Lord of the Rings fans on the Internet.

The whole thing started yesterday, August 8, 2010, when the Noldor Blog reported that some curious goings-on were happening at the Weta Cave. (Weta is the group that provided many of the props for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies,and the "Cave" is where many of the relics are stored and can be viewed by the public.)

Here is a run-down of reported events which seem to be more than coincidence:

The Weta Cave is shutting down five days for its annual refurbishment. (Last year this took only two days.)
On August 21, the Cave will again close for a private function, and employees are not being told the nature of that function.
Many Lord of the Rings related items are being hurriedly taken out of storage.
Add to these the speculation about the contract between Warner brothers and MGM. Rumors have it that MGM may lose their filming rights if they do not come up with at least part of the financing needed for the film.

Kristin Thompson, who writes the highly-thought-of Blog, The Frodo Franchise, speculates that because of the complicated issues associated with the filming and distribution rights for The Hobbit, the rumors may have validity. From her Blog:

Back in 1969, Tolkien unwisely sold both the production and distribution rights to LOTR and The Hobbit to United Artists, in perpetuity.... Saul Zaentz did not buy the Hobbit distribution rights in 1976, when he bought the LOTR production/distribution rights and the Hobbit production rights. Thus the distribution rights stayed with U.A. Since then, U.A. has shrunk to a shadow of its former self and is now a subsidiary of MGM.... The core of the deal between NL/WB and MGM is that Warner will distribute the Hobbit film in North America and MGM will do so abroad. Since MGM owns all the distribution rights, I suspect that its deal with Warner involved MGM becoming a co-producer of the film in exchange for Warner distributing the film in the U.S.

What this all means is that the studios might have indeed added a contingency clause which required MGM to come up with a certain percentage of the production money by a certain date or the deal would change.

A glimmer of hope for fans? or will this turn out to be much ado about nothing again? Two weeks form now we should know.

Lea Michele Loves Her 'Jewish Nose'

Although Lea Michele may be channeling Britney Spears for an upcoming episode of 'Glee,' she says she's never felt pressure to look like the pop princess.

In a recent interview, the brunette beauty credits being raised by an Italian mom and Jewish dad with boosting her body confidence.

"I come from a big Italian family and the pressure is not really anything I've been raised to feel," Michele, 23, says, according to an Us Weekly report.

"I've always been proud of my body, my Jewish nose and all of that. Hollywood's Hollywood, but that's not going to change."

Still, the Broadway-trained star admits she was somewhat surprised to land a role on the hit Fox series. "I never really thought there would be a place on television for me," Michele, who plays spoiled diva Rachel Berry on 'Glee,' told the Daily News last year.

"I have a very specific look. I'm Jewish. I'm Italian."

Growing up, the Bronx-born actress noticed that there weren't many girls on TV who looked like her. But that didn't make Michele any less proud of her appearance -- instead, she drew inspiration from another New York native who started out on the stage and went on to become a movie and music superstar.

"I remember looking up to Barbara Streisand, and thinking, 'Finally, someone who has a Jewish nose, who didn't get a nose job,'" says Michele, who hopes that 'Glee' fans feel the same way whenever they see her on screen.

"If that is inspiring and can give young girls a sense of confidence, that's great."

"I am pissed, we were friends and he was messing with my girl when I was with her, it's not cool.” Emilio Masella said. “I'm so angry I want to fight him."

As Universal's "Battleship" steams toward a start date this month, the pricey adaptation of the Hasbro board game is entering deep, treacherous waters. With a budget of $200 million or more and no major movie stars on board, the project is raising eyebrows among industry insiders who question whether this expensive gamble will pay off.

"It's a big bet like many, many big bets from many studios," Universal chairman Adam Fogelson acknowledged to THR. "We will be nowhere near the high point and nowhere near the low point of what people are spending."

But several huge questions hover over "Battleship," which begins filming in 15 days in Hawaii, that simply didn't apply to other big-ticket movies. In "Battleship," Universal has a director, Peter Berg, with some experience in action films, but he's not a brand name in the genre. And the concept is based on a board game that has sold more than 100 million units and raked in $1 billion-plus. This comes at a time when some studio execs are questioning whether the public is tiring of the presold concepts to which Hollywood has been clinging.

Jessalyn Gilsig has dropped hints about what is to come for her Glee character Terri.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actress admitted that Terri is still not a likeable character.

"It's a long road, the redemption of Terri," she said. "When the season starts... [Will and Terri are] divorced, and she's collecting spousal support. I don't think you're going to love her day one, but, you know, we're building."

Gilsig revealed that Terri will begin to build a life "independent of Will", adding: "Hopefully [it] will sort of free her up from all that panic."

During an interview with Ryan Seacrest this morning Lady GaGa revealed some surprising news. The chart monster let it slip that despite previously stating that she had completed her new album she has in fact returned to the studio and is considering releasing 2 records in 2011.

GaGa noted that her creative vigor was inspired by the overturning of California’s Proposition 8 last week. Check out what she had to say below:

“I felt like it was a revolution, like a gunshot went off, like it set us all into rotation,” Gaga said. “It was so exciting when it happened because it, for me, was a moment that indicated that it could happen in every state now…I was so happy and I went into the studio and kept writing [new music].”

She continued on to talk about how the new music would affect her forthcoming third album, that she has said in past interviews was already complete. “I know I told everybody my album was done, which is it kinda is done, but I can’t stop writing music. 2 new albums from GaGa in 2011 would definitely prove to be a bit much. After releasing LP’s in both 2008 and 2009, and embarking on a world tour that has yet to end, I sense that consumers would experience GaGa overload. It may, however, be more plausible to release a double disc album or a standard/deluxe edition combo. Hopefully she makes the right decision.

Yesterday news broke that Terry O'Quinn was planning a small screen reunion with his "Lost" co-star Michael Emerson and today Michael has revealed to NYPost.com's PopWrap how this new show came to be.

PopWrap: How did this idea come about?
Michael Emerson: It came from just goofing off around on the “Lost” set. It started as a joke: what will we do after “Lost?” Well we could have a vaudeville act or do songs & dances on the front porch of the old actor’s home. But we liked the idea, even though it began as a joke, more and more of working together again. So he asked, “what do you have lined up after ‘Lost?’” I said, "nothing, what do you have?" He said "nothing." We thought, would it be impossible to work together again? Is it out of the question? We decided it wasn’t -- if we wanted it to happen it could happen. So we made our wishes known to the kinds of people who make TV shows in Hollywood.

PW: So there's no tangible idea yet, just the concept of reuniting?
Michael: There’s maybe a half-dozen little baby ideas that are being batted around – you know how it is with the development of ideas in Hollywood: you throw something into the machine and when it comes out it looks nothing like itself any more. I don’t know if anything will come of it.

PW: But thematically, you guys are looking for something more comedic?
Michael: That was one of the ideas we were always tossing around – we’re both fairly funny guys who have lived in a dark place for a very long time on “Lost.” It might be fun to do something a little lighter in weight and a little more playful.

PW: Well, as a fan I certainly would love to have you both on TV together again.
Michael: I do feel that there is support for us – although I’m also a little trepidatious about it too because sometimes it’s better not to go to the well repeatedly. There’s also the risk of things just not working out. That would be a sad thing, so we’ll be extremely careful. Very particular.

The singer-actress had been in talks to become a judge on the show this season but the deal fell apart.
“Her demands got out of hand,” says the source. “Fox had just had enough.”

With its heavy use of teen melodrama and a central mystery fueled by texting, the ABC Family series “Pretty Little Liars” has drawn comparisons to “Gossip Girl.” In the case of “Liars,” a popular high school girl named Alison DiLaurentis has disappeared, and her four grieving best friends find themselves taunted by someone known only as “A” — whose hectoring texts suggest the girls know more than they’re saying.

Since its June debut, “Pretty Little Liars,” which airs its mid-season finale tonight, has quickly become a summer hit for the network. Speakeasy caught up with co-star Troian Bellisario, who plays the upright student Spencer Hastings, to discuss the show’s popularity and what fans can expect going forward.

The Wall Street Journal: Why do you think the show has become so popular?

Everybody loves a good mystery but it also doesn’t shy away from the issues that everyone is going through at the age the girls are. Some people are struggling with their sexuality, people’s parents divorce, they have issues at school — the show is sympathetic to the characters and what they’re going through.

The content is a little racy considering the series airs on ABC Family.

What was shocking to me was when I first got the script, I thought, I know exactly what kind of show this is going to be. I’d seen “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Then I read my audition scene and Spencer was bumming cigarettes from her sister’s fiance and shamelessly flirting with him. I know it’s not an HBO show but it’s pushing the envelope as far as ABC Family goes. They realize TV should reflect reality, and in reality young girls are struggling with their sexuality.

What can you tell fans about the finale?

I can’t say much but I will say that one of the girls finds out who A is.

One of the girls or the viewers?

One of the girls.

Could the show continue to exist if A’s identity is revealed?

I think it would exist and be interesting to watch. Once you know, then the audience gets to participate. But I don’t think we’ll let the audience find out who A is too soon. It’s more fun this way.

How much do you know about future plotlines?

Honestly, I know nothing. They keep us in the dark. The crew get scripts usually four days before we tape. They give the scripts to us, at the most, a day or two days before. We’ve gotten scripts at 2 a.m. before the day we’re filming. Sometimes you get a script far in advance but often you’re shooting so quickly. TV is fast.

Your father, Donald P. Bellisario, produced hit shows like “Magnum P.I” and “NCIS.” What’s the best piece of showbiz advice you got from him?

Never forget that it’s a business.

Farrah is having a hard time adjusting to her life raising Sophia and paying her bills. Her relationship with her mother is still strained, and despite the fact that her mom was charged with a misdemeanor - she took a plea bargain - Farrah is not satisfied. She is still avoiding working on the relationship with her mother, but has decided that she will let her mother be a part of Sophia's life.

Tyler is still having a hard time forgiving Catelynn for texting her ex-boyfriend. The two went to relationship counseling to try to solve their problems, but that did not help. Tyler demanded to see Catelynn's phone records before he would even consider forgiving her.

Garry and Amber went on a vacation to Florida, and they stayed with Amber's uncle. They couldn't relax entirely since they had to keep a close eye on Leah. Garry proposed to Amber on the beach, but everything was awkward. Garry did not know how to propose without being defensive, and although Amber eventually settled with the proposal, she was obviously not happy with it.

Maci had complained that she did not get to meet Tyler's new girlfriend, but when she finally had the opportunity, she still did not introduce herself. Bentley had a hard time getting used to not having his pacifier. Maci is still seeing Kyle and even told her friends that she could picture herself marrying him.

In a survey released by analyst Steve Sternberg, Fox News has the oldest audience among fully distributed cable networks. The network's average viewer last season was 65 years old, according to Nielsen. Heck, it's viewers are even older than viewers of Hallmark Channel,
Military Channel and Golf Channel.

Perhaps the reason viewers tend to leave Fox News on all day racking up hours of big Nielsen numbers is they can't actually change the channel?

(Ah, Fox News, you know we only kid you because you sort of set yourself up for it).

CNN wasn't far behind, though -- its average audience was 63. MSNBC was a perky 59. CNBC is the young turk at 52.

The youngest fully distributed cable channel? Oxygen. Followed by Bravo and, weirdly, VH1 Classic, then Travel and TLC -- all averaging about 42 years old.

Nelsan Ellis 'wants True Blood romance to end'

Nelsan Ellis has admitted that he does not want his character's romance on True Blood to last very long.

Lafayette has become attracted to Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) in the third season but Ellis explained that he doesn't want him to settle down too quickly.

"It's a different color to Lafayette," he told Digital Spy. "What I'm enjoying is working with [Alejandro] because it's challenging for the both of us and I think we've pushed each other to be better actors, because we've sort of taken that challenge on and I think we've surmounted it."

However, he continued: "I didn't really want a love interest. I like Lafayette as just a prostitute... I don't think he's a settle-down-right-now type of dude. I think later down the line, but I think he's so much about his exploits and making money and stuff. I know a lot of people wanted him to settle down and I think the gay community wanted him to settle down."

When asked if he wants the relationship to end soon, he replied: "I don't want it to last long. No, I don't want it to last long. Maybe when Lafayette is like 35, you know what I mean? Maybe. But Lafayette is like 28."

Nevertheless, Ellis suggested that the couple are "falling in love" and said: "[Creator Alan Ball] told me it was surprisingly tender... We were just trying to make it real and believable. We know the show has a huge gay fanbase so we wanted it to be believable for all the fans because when the camera's right here all that love's got to manifest itself. There are deep feelings and I think they're falling in love."

The Office‘s short list of possible replacements for Steve Carell just got a little longer.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that producers of the NBC hitcom have quietly reached out to rising comic-actors Danny McBride (the breakout star of HBO’s hilarious Eastbound & Down) and Rhys Darby (late of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords) to gauge their interest in joining the cast later this season.

Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein confirms that they’re “having discussions” about introducing a new salesman into Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, but he wouldn’t say whether this person was being groomed to necessarily replace Carell’s Michael Scott. “We haven’t settled exactly who will take over,” says Lieberstein, adding that promoting a current staffer to the top job remains a viable option as well. (Coexecutive producer Mindy Kaling recently endorsed Rainn Wilson’s Dwight for the gig.)

Recruiting McBride could prove difficult considering that HBO just renewed Eastbound & Down for a second season. “Danny is very happy on Eastbound & Down,” confirms his spokesperson.

Darby, on the other hand, is a free agent now that HBO has grounded Conchords. Reps for the New Zealand-born funnyman were unavailable for comment.

Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario says Tuesday's finale will finally reveal who "A" is -- the mysterious person who threatens to release a group of girls' darkest secrets.

"One of the pretty little liars finds out," teases 24-year-old Bellisario, who plays Spencer. "We can't tell you when or how or whom that happens to, but it's pretty exciting."

The Pretty Little Liars are a clique of four popular high school girls who break up their friendship after their fifth member, Allison, is found dead. They suddenly begin receiving mysterious text messages from somebody who refers to herself as "A," leading some of the girls to believe she didn't die.

Co-star Lucy Hale, 21, who plays Aria on the ABC Family drama, tells UsMagazine.com: "I want to know. Even I don't know who it is!"

Ashley Benson, who plays queen bee Hanna, promises viewers won't be let down.

"I read the eighth book, but only the last chapter because I wanted to know who 'A' was," she tells Us. "We’re staying very close to the books. Everyone who has read the books has been very pleased with them."

The stars promise even more drama when the show’s final 12 episodes begin airing this September.

"They get blackmailed by someone that can possibly be their dead best friend. You can never fully rest, and so that's what's so great about it," says Bellisario.

NEW YORK – Michael Emerson confirms he and former fellow ‘Lost‘ star Terry O’Quinn are shopping around for ideas for a TV show.

Emerson says they both want something more lighthearted than ‘Lost.’ He hopes the show can acknowledge their “age and frailty.” Emerson says he envisions a show where, if their characters get hit in the face, they “don’t get up for a month.”

The 55-year-old Emerson and 58-year-old O’Quinn are both up for best supporting actor Emmy Awards.

Emerson says he is aware a segment from the ‘Lost’ final season DVD was leaked recently. Even though he stars in it, however, Emerson says he still hasn’t seen it.

The actor, who played Ben Linus in the ABC show that ended in May, says he does not really get the “whole I-have-to-see-it-before-the-rest-of-the-world mania.”

Spartacus star Lucy Lawless has revealed that forthcoming mini-series Gods of the Arena will surprise viewers.

The actress told IGN that characters who debuted in original series Blood and Sand would reappear in the six-part prequel, but would be different to how fans remembered them.

"The audience might feel smart because they know what's coming, but we're still going to surprise you," she claimed. "We're still going to twist it up."

She added: "All the relationships are different. Solonius (Craig Walsh) and Batiatus (John Hannah) were actually great friends once."

The Xbox 360 version will use Kinect in the same way that another Ubisoft title, Your Shape, employs the technology, that is by projecting an image of the player in game to get rid of the usual avatars. Furthermore, there will be no need for a microphone, as the one incorporated in Kinect will do just fine, letting Michael Jackson fans dance and sing at the same time without the need of other peripherals.

PS3 version

The PlayStation 3 version will be compatible with Move and will also need a microphone for the vocals, according to Eurogamer.

Wii version

On the Wii, it will have the same game play mechanics as the popular Just Dance, in which players use the Wii Remote with Wii Motion Plus attached and attempt to mimic the on-screen silhouette dancer.

Nintendo DS and the PSP versions

The Nintendo DS release will behave like Elite Beat Agents, apparently, with the player using the stylus to tap circles or follow pathways between various points, keeping the rhythm of the song.

The game play is suggested as taking the form of a traditional Rhythm-Action title, with the players asked to press the corresponding face button to that which is presented on-screen. As players progress, new venues will be available alongside the new tracks, leading to some of Michael Jackson’s most famous performances.

In addition to the Rhythm-Action game play, Michael Jackson: The Experience on PSP will feature a series of mini-games and a quiz mode. Few details are available on how these extras will be offered within the package (whether they’ll be available form the start or unlockable rewards)

She went on to front the most recent season of The Bachelorette, which ended in her engagement to Roberto Martinez this week.

When asked on The View if he felt like he "let the wrong one go" when he declined to allow Fedotowsky's return, he said: "When she left, the way it happened, I really understood why she left. When she called and wanted to come back I understood why she wanted to come back.

America's First Avenger will battle his foes on the streets of Manchester and Liverpool during filming on the big-budget superhero film.

Manchester's Northern Quarter is to be transformed into 1940s New York for a dramatic car chase in Captain America: The First Avenger.

It has been chosen by Hollywood studio Marvel Productions for the company's first film shoot outside the US.

US actor Chris Evans, who was also in Fantastic Four, plays the title role.

Producers chose the Northern Quarter to recreate New York because of its towering buildings and pre-war architecture.

The location was organised through the Vision+Media film office, based at Mediacity in Salford Quays, which brought the big budget production of Sherlock Holmes to Manchester and Liverpool.

Susan Williams, drama liaison manager, said the company was approached by the studio, which is also behind the successful Spider Man and Hulk films, in February.

"Manchester's Northern Quarter is one of our most popular filming locations in city, thanks to its versatility," she said.

"The area was a convincing Victorian London in Sherlock Holmes last year and more recently it became 1980s Soho for the BBC's Worried About The Boy drama.

"We suggested the area to Marvel as its wide streets, towering buildings and pre-war architecture will make the perfect 1940s New York."

Residents, local businesses and Manchester City Council have all been consulted about the production, which will last about two weeks from mid September.

"We believe that projects such as this provide significant financial benefits for the region, providing opportunities for hotels, catering outlets and the regions talented production crew," Ms Williams added.

Previous filming in Greater Manchester has brought in an estimated £23m to the local economy, she added.

Details of scenes due to be filmed at Liverpool's Stanley Dock are yet to be finalised.

The big-budget film will tell the origin of Captain America, one of Marvel's most iconic superhero comic book characters.

The story follows a young soldier called Steve Rogers, who volunteers to undergo a series of experiments and is transformed into a human weapon, known as Captain America.

According to the official synopsis, the super hero "earns his way into the hearts and souls of every American, bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation".

Other stars billed to appear in the film include Samuel L Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, head of the shadowy Shield organisation and Lord of the Rings star Hugo Weaving, who plays a villain called The Red Skull.

The Grammy-winning singer, 24, scored 13 MTV Video Music Award nominations Tuesday – the most ever received by any artist in a single year. The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. EST.

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," says Gaga. "Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13."

Fox chairman Peter Rice: We wanted Ellen to stay!

Fox executives Monday tap-danced around an onslaught of questions about "American Idol's" shape-shifting judges' panel - and gave no real answers about who would be on it.

Network chairman Peter Rice told the crowd of television critics gathered at the Beverly Hills Hilton that he wished he could have paraded out the new faces of "Idol" - whoever they may be - but that no contracts have been signed.

Rice would not speculate about who might be signing in the next few weeks.

"The only thing I can tell you with absolutely certainty right now is that no one has signed a deal yet, on either side of the camera, to join 'American Idol' next year who wasn't on it last year," said Rice.

That leaves the slots previously occupied by Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres - who confirmed her departure from the series last week - available. But it doesn't clarify whether Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will return, and Rice wouldn't elaborate.

He wouldn't even say if the series would keep the four-person panel or return to three. He also wouldn't confirm if former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe would return to the series, as rumored.

Rice said that some of the speculation about who will join the show (names thrown into the mix have included Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Justin Timberlake, Bret Michaels, Jessica Simpson and even Howard Stern) has been on target, while some has been "wildly inaccurate." He did confirm that every person spoken to about the job has some sort of musical background.

That's apparently not a knock on DeGeneres, who had none. Rice said he actually tried to talk her into staying, but that the show ultimately was not the right fit for her.

The full panel should be in place by, at the very latest, mid-September, when the show begins filming initial auditions.

All the speculation and hype over the new season of "Idol," its 10th, "is a reminder of how intensely people feel about the show and how connected they are to the show," said Rice.

In other Fox news, entertainment president Kevin Reilly said questions about "Glee" overexposure - given the show's dominating iTunes sales, a tour and repeats - are "a high-class problem to have."

"We're looking to just do a great year of television," he said of the second season. "Maybe some of the hoopla will die down, and I think that will be healthy."

During NBC's Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien fiasco, Fox officials said they were very interested in talking to O'Brien about joining the network to help it create a late-night presence. But with Conan now headed to TBS, Fox is pulling back on late-night initiatives.

"Conan's made his choice, and I think he's going to do great over there," said Reilly. "The late-night business - we're taking a beat on it right now. ... We're going to keep our eye on prime time until we find the right piece of talent. [But] late night's never off the table."

There's irony in the title Hannah Montana Forever, which is what the fourth and final season of Hannah Montana is being called.

Pointedly, series star Miley Cyrus always has said she had no intention of playing Hannah Montana forever.

"I've never faked it, saying that I'm always going to be Hannah forever," said Cyrus, 17. "I'm going to grow up at some point. I've been always honest about that.

"So I think it has made the transition easier, because I never said I was going to be perfect. I never really put on a persona. I've always been really honest about who I am.

"And yes, I want to be a role model and have people look up to me. But this also doesn't mean that I am not going to live the way I want to live, or do what I think is right."

The truth is, Cyrus already has outgrown Hannah Montana, the fourth season of which debuts across Canada on the Family Channel Aug. 4.

Certainly as a singing and acting brand, Cyrus is not a little girl any more, nor does she carry herself that way. There always is that awkward period when kids from the Disney Channel -- which is Hannah Montana's network of origin in the United States -- start to mature and develop sex appeal, usually with unaired episodes of their wholesome TV series still in the bank.

"I think it's the right time (to end Hannah Montana) because we've been working since I was, you know, about 11," said Cyrus, the daughter of singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who also stars in the series. "That's when I did my first audition.

"So you know, there's only so much you can do. We don't really ever call it a kids' show, because it has been so much more. It has been more of a family show, because if it were just a kids' show, the parents and the older brothers and sisters don't necessarily want to watch."

Creatively, though, Hannah Montana is at a crossroads.

"You don't want it to grow up too much, where the younger audience feel they can't watch the show anymore," Cyrus said. "But also, you don't want to go backward and make it so young that you lose the older fans that you have."

All things considered, even though she already has moved on in so many ways, Cyrus said she will miss the stability of having Hannah Montana in her life.

"Probably just the security blanket," Cyrus said. "When I go on tour, when I go shoot a film, or whatever I'm doing, I always get to go back to that same rhythm that I know so well, and the same people, and know it's going to be a comfortable place and a good environment. That's not the same on every set.

"It's nice coming back to a set where you have people that you could be yourself around, before any of this craziness happened, before my records, before my movies.

"It sounds weird, but (Hannah Montana) seems almost like going to school, and I'll miss that."

Zac Efron may be the prettiest young actor in movies today — he's like a preppy update of Shaun Cassidy in his teen-dream prime — but he also demonstrates that looks will get you only so far. As the title golden boy of Charlie St. Cloud, Efron plays a small-town competitive sailor whose beloved little brother, Sam (Charlie Tahan), gets killed in a car crash. (Charlie was at the wheel.)

It doesn't take long to figure out that Charlie dies too — at least in spirit. Instead of heading off to Stanford to realize his dream of becoming a sailing champion, he stays home, going to work at the local graveyard. He's so ruled by guilt and despair that he imagines he's talking to ghosts — like that of his late brother, whom he ''keeps alive'' by meeting him every day at the exact same clearing in the woods to play baseball.

The surreal thing is, Zac Efron can't do despair. He plays it by staring. Blankly. And by not smiling. Blankly. Those sky blue eyes of his may be moody, but in Charlie St. Cloud they have only one mood — a fake-profound, lost-idol tranquillity. Instead of making you weep, he puts you in a coma. Charlie St. Cloud is as wholesome as a Miley Cyrus movie, only without the energy. It's like the religio-kitsch version of a TV tragedy-of-the-week.

Charlie starts to hang out with a girl tailor-made for him (Amanda Crew, who's like a text-generation Anne Hathaway), but he can't be with her until he lets go of the past and says goodbye to his ghosts. Efron, you can tell, is trying to get beyond his past, but one or two more movies like this one and High School Musical 4 will be beckoning. C-

Jail hasn't exactly been easy for her, but Lindsay Lohan is getting through it by focusing her attention elsewhere.

"She's looking forward to her release," attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said Thursday after visiting the actress, 24, at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, for about an hour. "It's a light at the end of the tunnel."

Lohan is "fine, she's good," adds Chapman Holley, though she says she's "not exactly sure" when the star's jail term will be over.

Lohan started serving her 90-day sentence on July 20 for violating probation in a DUI case. The Sheriff's Department has said she could be released as early as Sunday. She will then be headed to an inpatient rehab center.

Also paying the actress a visit the same day as her attorney: ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson, mom Dina and sister Ali.

Asked if the family would be spending time with Lohan before she goes to rehab, Dina told PEOPLE, "We hope so."

For comic book fans, and those who love comic book movies in general, Marvel studio's major "Avengers" announcement and cast unveiling at last week's San Diego Comic-Con still has heads reeling. From the unveiling of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye to seeing director Joss Whedon smiling with his star-studded cast — there was a lot to take in.

When MTV News caught up with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige during our Comic-Con live stream, no one was more excited to talk about the highly anticipated film and, specifically, the qualifications of fan-favorite director Joss Whedon. We asked him how they made the decision to hire Joss despite his having only directed one feature film (2005's "Serenity").

"I've known Joss for many years. We were looking for the right thing and he came in and met on it," Feige explained. "As you've already heard him say on his panels, he's incredibly intelligent, he's got great things to say about it, and if you look at the directors we've worked with, we hire directors who have the potential to do great things and we want our film to be that great thing."

Feige cited "Thor" helmer Kenneth Branagh and "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau as perfect examples of Marvel's hiring decisions. "Whether it's Branagh who of course has done some great things, whether it's Favreau, who did some fun movies prior to 'Iron Man,' we want to find a director that's on the verge of doing something great, as we think Joss is."

"The Avengers," starring Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner is slated for release in 2012.

Clothes on Film, Chris: Was it your intention to give each character a signature look, e.g. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Arthur in 3pc suits, or Ellen Page’s Ariadne nearly always wearing patterned silk neck scarves?

Jeffrey Kurland: I set out, as I always do, to design all of the costumes for Inception to best serve the emotional and physical needs of each of the characters.

If a signature look for each character emerged, it was not through a pre-designated plan but through the physical development of that character.

The costumes, i.e. the suits, coats, dresses, etc in Inception were all designed by Jeffrey Kurland. They were made to order.

COF: The first time we see Marion Cotillard as Mal she is encircled in an angular upturned collar, somewhat like a wicked witch. What was the purpose behind her look and how did it evolve throughout the story?

JK: When we are first introduced to Mal we wanted to stir the audience’s curiosity with a sense of mystery. As the film proceeds we find that Mal is femme fatale, mother, wife, architect and the emotional center of Cobb’s world. All of these character traits combined became the basis for her character’s design and palette.

The fabrics for all the costumes, including the majority of ties, were collected from many sources both in the United States and abroad.

COF: How much does costume reflect the inner machinations of the plot, particularly in a film such as Inception? For example, Cobb’s children are wearing the same clothes at the end of the story as they are in his dream ‘memory’ throughout the film. Is there something to be interpreted here?

JK: Costume design reflects greatly on the movement of the plot, most significantly through character development. Character development is at the forefront of costume design. The characters move the story along and with the director and the actor the costume designer helps to set the film’s emotional tone in a visual way. In a more physical sense the costumes’ style and color help to keep the story on track, keeping a check on time and place.

On to the second part of your question, the children’s clothing is different in the final scene … look again…

Each costume was cut and assembled by talented artisans: tailor Dennis Kim, dressmaker Mary Ellen Fields of Hargate Costumes, shirt maker ANTO Beverly Hills, and an army of seamstresses and finishers. Ager dyers and fabric specialists added to the mix.

COF: The male characters’ suiting is very up to date, even forward thinking, such as the peaked lapels on Ken Watanabe’s single breasted suit, or the Nehru collar and popper studs of Michael Caine’s shirt. Was your intention to create a pseudo-futuristic vibe?

JK: Not wanting to date the film, I was trying to create an upscale world of business and intrigue with architecture being a constant metaphorical thread running throughout… definitely forward thinking, without being futuristic. That enabled me to travel from reality to dreams and back, keeping a certain amount of stylization that would serve all the situations presented in the script.

Most of the footwear for the film was purchased, although some of the shoes were custom made.

COF: Ken Watanabe as Saito wears a Nagajuban under his lounge jacket at one point, a subtle blurring of East and Western culture. How detailed was your research into Asian dress traditions?

JK: I did research traditional Japanese dress thoroughly, knowing that I wanted that influence in Saito’s first costume. The scene being in a mysterious and unidentifiable place was the perfect setting to introduce a highlighted reality. Being a powerful Japanese businessman in what was eventually revealed to be a dream; I wanted to show an adherence to and a respect for the old, but still showcasing him as contemporary and cutting edge.

COF: How involved was director Christopher Nolan in how the characters should dress?

JK: Director Chris Nolan was very involved, and extremely collaborative in every aspect of this film and its look. His fingerprint is everywhere. Happily, the costumes were no exception.

COF: What was the significance of Arthur and Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Cobb both wearing leather jackets for the initial ‘Inception’ sequence?

JK: Arthur’s character was a cab driver in this dream and Cobb’s character was a kidnapper/thug. To be true to the scene and convincing to Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy’s character), they were dressed accordingly. Their leather jackets were different in fit and style but still kept a cohesive look respecting the architect and the dream.

COF: How important was your use of colour and texture in the film, particularly with regards to the high quality 65 mm shooting format showing up every detail?

JK: All of the costumes and the fabrications for Inception were carefully chosen for their texture, patterns, and colors. Each character had a palette that was symbiotic with their character and style. I especially enjoyed working with director of photography Wally Pfister whose light and shadows complimented and defined the patterns and colors in the costumes.
