Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince one of the best books of the 2000s

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (2005), J.K. Rowling

Arguments for and against its place in the Great Western Canon aside, the Harry Potter series was undeniably the biggest literary phenomenon of the ’00s. Though the first installments from the ’90s were inarguably children’s books, beginning with 2000’s Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, the series began to morph into something decidedly more complex, reaching its apex in 2005 with Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. The penultimate entry in the seven-part series is most notable for the shocking death at its climax, probably the series’ most unexpected, harrowing moment. But even more remarkable is the fact that it spends 650-plus pages basically filling in backstory and moving pieces into place for the series’ conclusion without sacrificing momentum or character development. (Though it perhaps attempts to cover too much ground at times, giving some elements short shrift.) In spite of whatever other limitations she has as a writer, J.K. Rowling is at her best in Half-Blood Prince, capably unspooling her epic yarn in the straightforward yet enthralling manner that accounts for the series’ unprecedented success.

Beyonce has the best song of the decade!

NME, the popular UK music magazine, had its critics and staffers vote a 100-strong list of the best songs of the decade.

The track, which features Jay-Z, hit #1 in the U.S. and the UK and comes in at #1 on the NME list. Beyonce's horn-laden single beats out songs like MGMT's "Time to Pretend" and The Strokes' "Hard to Explain" for the top spot. Outkast and Yeah Yeah Yeahs both score two entries in the top 20.

Congrats to Beyonce!

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp's Possible Sex Scene in 'The Tourist' Described

Words on the street are Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are going to be seen hooking up in upcoming film, "The Tourist". Life & Style magazine claims they have got their hand on a draft of writer Julian Fellowes' screenplay, and it mentions a steamy shower sex scene between Jolie's Interpol agent Cara Mason and Depp as American tourist Frank Taylor.

According to the script draft, Frank will approach Cara when she is naked in the shower. "Walking in, he lifts Cara against the glass, clutching at her slithery body, kissing her frantically. She kisses him back with ardour, wrapping her dripping legs around his back," so read the script.

Cara later turns abruptly to Frank and presses her body against his. The script then continues, "He's taken by surprise but willingly responds to her advance, wrapping his arms around her back. They exchange a long, passionate kiss."

Depp was first reported being in talks to join Jolie in the thriller film earlier this month. At that time, Variety mentioned that the "Pirates of the Carribean" actor will take on the role of an American tourist who is being used by Jolie's Interpol agent character to locate a criminal who was her ex-lover. The same role once belonged to Sam Worthington before he left the project due to creative differences.

Julian Fellowes teams up with Christopher McQuarrie and Bill Wheeler in writing the script. Meanwhile, Columbia Pictures is looking for a new director after Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck dropped out of the project. Slated to be a 2011 film, "The Tourist" is expected to start its production in February 2010.
